My name is Annamária Bartha — though many know me as Ancsi, Ancsika, or simply Ancsa. Now that you know what to call me, let’s get to the point. In the following lines, I outline the parts of my professional life that have truly shaped who I am today.
The beginning
Life didn’t grant me the opportunity to study art within institutional frameworks. However, during my general education, I had the privilege of learning from outstanding artists and art historians whose aura and spirit continue to accompany me to this day.
Is that about a wonderful launch of a career?
My roots lie in visual communication: photography, digital and analog image-making. This foundation gave me the opportunity to explore documentary and reportage photography, where a promising professional path began to take shape. That path, however, was broken in the 2000s due to political changes in Hungary and the country’s gradual move away from democracy.
A lifeline, perhaps…
I returned to the writing skills I had begun to develop in my youth, hoping to find my place in the media as a photojournalist and journalist. That did not happen. By that time, the rapidly dismantled and financially weakened independent media had already absorbed those it could still keep afloat, while I had already passed the internship stage.
Time was earning money — so life moved me on.
In the years since, the systemic collapse could not to grind down my creative spirit. Within the limits of my energy and possibilities — even with interruptions — images, creative works have continued to emerge.
This page can be seen as a space that, through various works, reveals who I truly am: a free artist. It is like a living tissue, constantly changing and evolving alongside me.
All content presented here — writings, photographs, and illustrations — is created by me, with the exception of the “Quotes” found under the “Worth Reading” section, where you may encounter excerpts from books I have read. These are not translated to English thus may not be relevant for non-Hungarian readers. Though, for extra clarity: these texts are not written by me. Their purpose is to provoke thought, perhaps to inspire reading. They are not necessarily cute or comforting.
I do not follow trends, nor do I build on daily content production. For me, creation is a way of life — self-expression is oxygen.
I do not use artificial intelligence in my work. I create. I paint. I draw, and work — in both analog and digital forms.
At times, I write as well. If I see something good — or something troubling — that calls for expression, I will not keep it to myself. And here’s no surprise: new content always appears under the “Latest” section. And who knows — perhaps one day I will return to photography.
Organik.
With regards,
B. A.
